You might remember one of my earlier posts about Celine Neon’s self-titled album that came out earlier this year. Much to my delight, this grungy pop duo (comprised of Emily Nejad and Maggie Kubley) hasn’t lost momentum yet. On their Facebook page recently, they described themselves as “bubblegum pop for bad girls” — a description that’s pretty fitting, in my opinion.
While they’ve only released four songs on their new EP, Kitty, they’re songs you won’t be able to get out of your head. The title track, “Kitty”, is a song that could double as a killer feminist manifesto — playful, glittery, girly, and powerful. Both “My Main” and “Boy I’ll Be” are pretty different from anything I’ve ever heard from them — both showcase Celine Neon’s more vulnerable side. “My Main” is actually my favorite track — so I’ve featured it on this post.
If you liked Celine Neon’s first album, you’ll definitely continue to like Kitty. I do hope that 2016 brings more hits from these gals. They’ve got some pretty big gigs coming up, like Reaction New Year’s Eve — an event that also features Skrillex, deadmau5, and CHVRCHES. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I have no idea what you’re waiting on.
