For Malcolm Young, it’s been a long way to the top of the rhythm guitar heap. His timeless riffs form the foundation of AC/DC’s sound and continue to serve as the gold standard of rock guitar riffs for many.
Now, Gretsch’s USA Custom Shop is saluting Malcolm with an incredible painstaking recreation of his #1 guitar — a 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird. Limited to just 40 pieces worldwide, the replica is the product of a 9-year effort. Gretsch engineers made sure to get every detail, from the warped upper pickup cavities to wear marks across the guitar’s top, until the “Salute” Jet was as accurate as possible.
Of course, Malcolm’s playing technique and his dynamics can never be duplicated in an instrument, but with the “Tribute” Jet’s single TV Jones Classic pickup and chambered mahogany body, you can get close to approximating Malcolm’s tone. The expertly worn hardware and eccentric relics of the era — like the Space Control bridge — only add to the vintage charm.
We’re thrilled to carry one of just 40 Malcolm Young “Salute” Jets at zZounds. If you’re a diehard AC/DC lover, or just a fan of damn good rhythm guitar playing, you’re gonna want to check this out!
