In this edition, we’re taking cues from the beat makers out there and pairing up the Novation Circuit and the Zoom H6 to turn some real-world samples into full-fledged songs.
When the Novation Circuit showed up at zZounds HQ, our wheels started turning immediately, thinking of ways to show just how instant the gratification of using a groove box can be. In no time, we had the Circuit paired up with a Zoom H6 and Q8 camera and were ready to hit the streets, making samples out of everyday objects and situations.
The great thing about the Circuit is that it can be completely self-sufficient, thanks to an onboard sample bank, battery operation and built-in speaker. We thought the ideal partner in crime for the Circuit would be a multi-track recorder like the Zoom H6 and its video-capable counterpart, the Zoom Q8, allowing us to record samples in the field and immediately import them to the circuit.
We used the Zoom H6 and Q8 to capture samples and video clips around the office and city, then loaded them onto the Circuit via the Sample Import feature. The result is truly unique — turning the surrounding environment into a fully functional drum machine.
