You probably didn’t expect the funkiest track you’d hear today would have this much bicycle bell in it. Maybe a little bit, but not this much.
Yet artist Rico Loop has created quite the groove in this breathtaking video using just a Boss RC-505 Loop Station and a microphone. Watch as he strolls through what appears to be Berlin’s streets, interacting with (seemingly) unsuspecting people, and making instruments out of anything available. Be it a bell, an empty wine bottle or layering his voice, it’s pretty impressive.
Impressive, too is the work done by director Arthur Moore. Shooting this on one camera in a single shot is just as impressive as the loops Rico builds, and the direction complements the musical form perfectly. The amount of planning that must have taken place makes the improvised feel of the video that much more of an accomplishment.
And of course, the Boss’ RC-505 Loop Station deserves some credit, too. With five stereo tracks to work with, plus vocal and DJ-style effects on-board, and 99 phrase memories, its only limit is your imagination. Check it out if you’re a multi-instrumentalist, beatboxer or just want to experiment with some looping.
