JBL’s new SUB18, a true behemoth of a studio subwoofer!
The last few months have seen JBL breathe some fresh air into some of their classic speaker series, and with good results. Their newest models show clear improvements to functionality and aesthetics; the speakers just look better and are easier to use. Improvements haven’t just been skin-deep though — new and improved waveguides inside the speaker enclosures are ensuring better room coverage with more even frequency response at off-angles.
JBL’s 2016 NAMM releases continue this trend of better-looking, better-sounding, easier-to-use speakers. Let’s start with the SUB18, JBL’s new studio monitor subwoofer. JBL’s previous subwoofer offerings have served up the extra bass extension that their adherents have come to expect, but the SUB18 takes the quest for low end to new…lows.
With a frequency response reaching down to an internal-organ-vibrating 18 Hz and 137 dB peak output, the SUB18 has all the juice you’re going to need for mixing the loudest, most pounding dance tracks, while maintaining low distortion and clinical accuracy. And don’t worry about wearing this subwoofer out, it’s built specifically for continuous high output. Hook this thing up to your studio monitor setup and you’re going to notice the increased mid and high frequency clarity as well as a much higher overall system output (the SUB18 triples your maximum system volume when added to a JBL M2 Master Reference Monitor system).
Meet your new portable PA system, the JBL EON208P
Also new to the JBL lineup is the EON208P portable powered PA system. A suitcase-style system, the EON208P gives you a pair of 8″ speakers and an 8-channel mixer with a system power rating of 300 watts.
Like JBL’s other recently refreshed speakers, the EON208P includes the aforementioned updated waveguide technology and the latest in materials, acoustic technology, and component design. The mixer unit gives you Bluetooth streaming audio and Hi-Z inputs, and even includes an AKG handheld dynamic microphone with an on/off switch, and a mic cable. The speakers can be pole-mounted or stacked, and the whole thing snaps together and can be carried in one hand for easy portability. The EON208P even has an included space to store the power and speaker cables. JBL has practical ease-of-use in mind as well as real-world performance when it comes to the future of their speaker designs, and both of those qualities are exemplified in these new 2016 models.
