The Sabian HHX family gains a few new members with the historic launch of the Complex Series. The zZounds crew flew out to meet Sabian artist and certified ripper-behind-the-kit Dave Elitch to talk about HHX Complex cymbals. Elitch is playing a mixture of HHX Complex medium cymbals and HHX thin cymbals.
Elitch has worked with many high-profile acts such as The Mars Volta, Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus, just to name a few. Elitch has appeared on various film scores including those for “Trolls” and “Logan.” He can also be caught teaching drumming technique and body mechanics in one of his touring masterclasses or at one of his private lessons in L.A.
Sabian HHX Complex cymbals combine both HH and HHX hammering techniques at different stages during manufacture. They receive HH hammering before lathing, then get denser HHX hammering overtop. This results in a thin cymbal with a tone that’s simultaneously dark and fast and a medium cymbal becoming ominous and overpowering. With a high volume ceiling and tons of power behind each hit, the Sabian HHX Complex series is designed for both stage and studio.
