In celebration of the Sabian HHX Complex launch, the zZounds crew had the privilege of experiencing Steve Ferrone behind the kit playing the Sabian HHX Complex thin series cymbals. Ferrone is a legend in the music scene, touring and recording with the likes of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Eric Clapton, Rick James, Chaka Khan, and he even worked as the Saturday Night Live house band drummer in 1985.
In our video demo, Steve immediately took a liking to the the Sabian HHX Complex series cymbals, noting “I could use these. As a matter of fact, they’re coming to the session with me today, right?” High praise from a drummer with a legacy spanning decades within the Sabian Cymbals family and one with endless options when it comes to hardware.
Sabian HHX Complex cymbals combine both HH and HHX hammering techniques at different stages during manufacture. They receive HH hammering before lathing, then get denser HHX hammering overtop. This results in a thin cymbal with a tone that’s simultaneously dark and fast. With a high volume ceiling and tons of power behind each hit, the Sabian HHX Complex series is designed for both stage and studio.
