Remember that crazy song (and even CRAZIER music video) “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” by The Darkness? I know I do. It came out in the early aughts, and I will probably never forget it. I still pick it when I’m out doing karaoke with friends. I was thrilled when I stumbled upon their new album Last of Our Kind.
I honestly thought that The Darkness hadn’t done ANYTHING since that album/song, because I didn’t really follow them. When I stalked their Spotify page, I saw that they’d actually put out three albums since. My guess is that they didn’t gain much traction because they were too weird. Or perhaps their late-’70s hard rock sound is just not what the kids want to listen to these days. The aforementioned points are NEVER a deterrent for me.
Here’s what you can expect from Last of Our Kind: screaming guitar solos, rockin’ falsettos, and fantastical lyrics. You might not want to listen to this if you’re doing something that takes massive amounts of concentration. It’s great for air guitar-ing in your bedroom — or air-drumming. Be careful, though…I totally pulled a muscle air-drumming once.
