For many, the ticket to genuine doom tone starts with a vintage tube amp cranked within an inch of its life for maximum volume, power, and punch. As it turns out, vintage tube amps command a premium on the used market, and even new tube amps typically come with a hefty price tag. But what if you want to doom on a budget? Luckily, we here at zZounds wanted to see if we could put together a respectable rig that’ll handle all the doom you throw at it, all while saving some much needed cash!
Between the solid-state Orange O-Tone 40, Gretsch Electromatic CVT Double-Cut, and a few tasty pedals, we think we pulled off some monstrous tones while maintaining a modest budget. So our question to you: Can you even doom for under $1500? Check out our video and let us know what you think!
