Something new seems to always be popping up out of Oklahoma City when it comes to tone and them Walrus Audio boys are back at it again, this time with the Emissary Parallel Boost. Named after the network of veins in your circulatory system that, in layman’s terms, connect the outside of your head to the inside of your head (which means the tone was inside you all along!) it’s a simple but effective parallel boost.
Like most boost pedals, there isn’t much to fiddle with on the Emissary — stomp it on with the footswitch, tame any sharp high end with the bright knob that controls volume of the “bright” boost circuit, and smooth out your creamy mid-range tones with the mid knob that controls the volume of the other, “mid” boost circuit. From there you can zero in on your tone with a targeted boost at either 1kHz or 800Hz selected by the toggle switch.
Sure, it might not be a multi-function stereo delay with 20 presets and a tap tempo or a switchable MOSFET-and-germanium combo fuzz with +/- 2db octave, but a boost is a super usable pedal. The Emissary takes a simple boost pedal, and well, boosts it up, with a 2-in-1 function that gives you control where you need it. Dial in or out as much of the two boosts as you want, (you can zero-out the mid or bright knob to only get the other boost circuit). It’s a little more complex than most boosts, but still a simple stomp-and-go pedal.
The Emissary comes in a “Silk Satin Black” finish with skull x-ray Artwork by illustrator Adam Forster. You can preorder it now at zZounds!
